Day 1: Setting the Foundation: Define & Remember Your Vision

Streamline Your Business Playbook

Streamline Your Success

Welcome to the Business Owner's Playbook. A 7-day Series designed to streamline Success. For Day 1, let’s set the foundation with business vision. What problem you are solving and turn that into your vision.

When I set out to start a business, I wanted a roadmap. I sat down and wrote a business vision like a homework assignment. Now that I have started a business, I can look back on my 'why' vision when I feel lost, or I am figuring out how to best serve clients. Let's break down how crafting a statement that defines the 'why' and future vision can help streamline your business.

Setting The Foundation - Define Your Vision

Day 1 - Define Your Vision

What is your business vision?

A vision defines where you want to go in the future. Keep it simple. Be bold. Edit out words that don't evoke your future and the problem you are solving. Here are two examples:

 Disney: “To make people happy.”

Google: “To provide access to the world’s information in one click”

If you watch a Disney movie does it make you happy, or going to Disney World? It might not with the prices these days, but I bet it makes your kids happy :)

Vision statements can evolve as your business changes. Sometimes evolving is what keeps business providing the best service possible. Google and other technology companies are incorporating AI technology. But if you look at Google's vision statement, AI still fits into the message and vision.

This is not an exercise in giving you anxiety about finding the perfect vision statement but Step 1 in streamlining your business. Can you answer why you are in business? What problem you are solving? Use that to understand your vision.

Take a moment to reflect—are you still operating with your defined vision? If not, that’s okay. Reconnecting with what you’re trying to accomplish can provide clarity on where you stand in your business right now.

Set aside 20 minutes today to look at (or define) your business' vision for the future and what problem you are solving. Think like you are talking to one person. How can you solve their problem?

Define Your Business Vision in 20 Minutes

For me, I recently refined my why and vision to 'helping organize the overwhelm'. That took me iterations. Ultimately, I look to help clients simplify and streamline their business structure so that they can figure out what is essential and not feel overwhelmed. Make sure the messaging is clear and consistent.

Message me if you want to chat about more about your business vision, or how to streamline. I would love to hear from you!
